New: Effective January 1, 2018, the Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) will begin collecting municipal income tax for the City of Newton Falls. All City of Newton Falls tax payments and tax forms, for current and prior tax years, are to be sent to RITA. We encourage you to utilize RITA’s electronic filing and payment system. The system will be available for your use beginning February 16, 2018.

Who Must File
The City of Newton Falls requires all residents age 18 and older to file an income tax return, regardless of whether or not tax is due. A copy of your Federal 1040 is required for filing verification in order to complete your City Taxes.

The City of Newton Falls has contracted with the Regional Income Tax Agency, commonly known as RITA, to collected the city income tax effective January 1, 2018. RITA forms must be used to file and pay the tax due for the City of Newton Falls. Any forms and payments should be electronically filed or mailed directly to RITA.
The City of Newton Falls has mandatory filing. If you are 18 years of age or older and reside in Newton Falls during any portion of the tax year, you are required to file an income tax return whether or not tax is due. If you are retired or permanently disabled, and have no taxable income, you are required to file a declaration of exemption.
Every corporation, partnership, trust or estate whether a resident or non-resident that conducts business in Newton Falls must file a return and pay on the net profit. Subchapter S must file as an entity.
Each employer located or doing business in Newton Falls, who employs one or more persons on a salary, wage, commission or other such compensation is subject to our tax, and must deduct that tax due, and remit accordingly.
