POLICE CHIEFRobert Carlson The Position – The Police Chief is a full-time, salaried working supervisor’s position, that is appointed by the City Council and works under the direct supervision of the City Manager. A sworn, certified police officer with sole jurisdiction and control over the Newton Falls Police Department & its employees in accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio and the department’s rules & regulations. Responsible for efficiently managing the department & its resources, preventing crime, patrolling the community, enforcing and all applicable federal, state & local statutes, protecting & serving residents, taxpayers, & visitors, assuring law & order, protecting life & property, and special assignments.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
The Current Police Chief – Robert Carlson is a 1966 graduate of Newton Falls High School and served in the U.S. Army Military Police from 1967 to 1969. He graduated from the police academy at Youngstown State University and was hired by the City in 1971. Robert was promoted to Sergeant in 1974 and then to Lieutenant in 1978. He was hired as Newton Falls Police Chief in 1987. Chief Carlson has received training in many fields from the state to federal level. He has attended classes at several universities, colleges, technical schools, and courses through F.B.I., Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Police Academy. Chief Carlson is presently an instructor for the Ohio Police Academy.
