The operation of the
Electric Department consists of the maintenance and upgrading of the
electrical system. Electric Department has approximately four miles of 69 Kv
transmission line feeding two substations, which are located at Church
Street and Warren Road at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Two circuits exit
the Warren Road Substation at 12 Kv. At our Church Street Substation we also
have 4 Kv transformers to feed the 4 Kv load. These transformers are the
oldest we have and this is the load we are working on to convert to 12 Kv.
12 Kv is a more efficient and economical system. These two transformers are
5 mva and 7.5 mva. We have six circuits exiting Church Street at 4 Kv. The
total distribution system consists of approximately 21 miles of distribution
circuits.
The Position
– The Electric Department Superintendent is a full-time, hourly working
supervisor’s position, appointed by the City Manager and working under the
direct supervision of the City Manager or an assigned supervisor. The
Electric Department Superintendent is responsible for:

Efficient operation & maintenance of the City’s electric distribution
system and its related facilities;

Directs the operations of the electric distribution system;

Assists in designing & planning system maintenance & improvement projects;

Develops or assists in developing costs estimates for maintenance
&improvement projects;

Keeps current with new distribution & transmission technologies, products
and procedures;

Oversees the maintenance & upkeep of the City’s street & traffic light
systems;

Drives, operates, and maintains assigned vehicles & equipment;

Assists in the development of the City’s annual budget.
The Current Electric
Superintendent
– Jeff Gump has worked for the city working his way up from apprentice to
lineman to Superintendent. Mr. Gump is a part-time student working on
his electrical engineers degree. He is also a volunteer with the
Newton Falls Joint Fire District holding the positions of EMT and
Firefighter.
