The Position – The Maintenance Superintendent is a full-time, hourly working supervisor’s position, appointed by and works under the direct supervision of the City Manager or an assigned supervisor. The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for:

  • Efficient care & maintenance of the public streets, parks, playgrounds, community center, municipal buildings etc.;

  • Oversees street patching & resurfacing, the installation of sidewalks, storm sewers, etc.;

  • Investigates customer complaints, as assigned;

  • Oversees the mowing & trimming of city-owned property, including parks & playgrounds;

  • Supervises the removal and replacement of street & traffic signs;

  • Drives, operates, and maintains assigned vehicles & equipment;

  • Schedules & supervises the cleaning & maintenance of storm sewers and catch basins;

  • Schedules & supervises all public snow removal efforts;

  • Schedules & supervises all cleaning & janitorial services in municipal buildings;

  • Assists in the development of the City’s annual budget.

The Current Maintenance Superintendent – Harry is a graduate of LaBrae High School. After graduation, he worked for five years in construction as a carpenter. He then worked for the Luntz Corp. as a maintenance foreman for 4 ½ years. He began his service with the City in September, 1983 as a Laborer, in August, 1988 was hired as Public Works Foreman then in 2001 moved to the position of Maintenance Superintendent. In 1978, he moved to Newton Falls and married to his wife, Patricia and they have two daughters. Harry and Patty still reside in Newton Falls and are also the proud owners of “Ginger”, a purebred cocker spaniel and her offspring, “Lucky.”
