The Position – The Zoning Administrator is a part-time, hourly position appointed and works under the direct supervision of the City Manager. The Zoning Administrator interprets and enforces the Subdivision, Property Maintenance and Zoning Codes. The Zoning Administrator is responsible for:

  • Enforces the Zoning, Subdivision, and Property Maintenance Codes, and other related rules and regulations;
  • Reviews & issues zoning permits for all proposed construction to assure compliance with applicable Codes and regulations;
  • Serves as liaison to the Planning & Zoning Commission and attends meetings as directed;
  • Maintains accurate records & reports as required by law, or the Manager;
  • Investigates citizen complaints regarding possible Code violations;
  • Issues notices of Code violations to property owners as needed; and
  • Assists residents with Zoning procedures;
  • Assists in the coordination of community tire clean-up days; and
  • Serves as a member of the Trumbull County Zoning Inspectors Association.

The Current Zoning Administrator - Brett is a 1976 graduate of Newton Falls High School and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. He retired after 26 years as a state trooper from the Warren Post in 2005. He is a member of the Trumbull County Zoning Inspectors Association & International Code Council. Brett has been certified in Incident Management Response and Command. He is a life long resident of the City except for a short time in Sandusky, Ohio where he was stationed as a trooper. Brett is single and is the proud owner of his pug dog named Buster.
