The Position – The City Clerk is a full-time, salaried, position that is appointed by the Newton Falls City Council and works under the direct supervision of the City Manager. The Clerk acts as the Clerk of Council and has all of the powers and performs all of the duties provided for the Clerk under the Charter of the City of Newton Falls. The Clerk is responsible for:

  • Giving notice of all Council meeting;
  • Keeping a journal of the minutes of all council proceedings;
  • Keeping all public records;
  • Acting as:

· Secretary & assistant to the City Council;

· Secretary to the Planning & Zoning Commission; and

· Secretary to any other board, commission or committee, as directed by Council;

  • Representing Council, the Manager, and/or the City in a wide variety of deliberations & interactions with other governmental, private and private non-profit organizations, as assigned.

The Current City Clerk – Kathleen M. King began her service with the City in 1992 as a secretary in the prosecutor’s office. In December, 1994, Mrs. King was appointed to serve as City Clerk. She is an active member of the Ohio Municipal Clerk’s Association and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. Kathy became a Certified Municipal Clerk in March, 1999 and has completed courses within the Kent State University’s College of Continuing Studies, Ohio Municipal Clerks’ Career Development Program and the Ohio & West Virginia Municipal Clerks’ Advanced Academy. Kathy has also completed several correspondence courses through the University of Michigan, and the Center for Local Government. King is originally from Newton Falls and graduated from Newton Falls High School. Kathy, her husband, Bill, and two children reside in Newton Township.
